UCU Canons have qualified for the National Basketball League semifinal series after seeing off Victoria Crocs.
UCU Canons have registered a hard-fought 61-60 victory against Victoria Crocs in the NBL encounter at YMCA Court, Wandegeya on Friday evening.
The Crocs started the game on the front foot opening a six-point lead (21-15) thanks to the fight that gave the crowd a reason to chant.
In the second quarter, the UCU Canons found their rhythm, held the ball better, thus taking a four-point (35-31) lead going into the halftime break.
Coming from the long break, the momentum shifted to the Crocs. The side implored a full court press and man-to-man defence that forced the Canons into several turnovers.
At the end of the third quarter, the Crocs had a slim two-point (47-45) lead before the final frame of the game.
In the third quarter, the Crocs started like a house on fire with a 6-0 run. With 1:30 minutes to play, Daniel Munganzi turned up late with eight points to level the game 59-59.
With two seconds on the clock, Mark Ngobi was sent on the line with a chance to send the game to overtime but he converted one as the Canons edged the game at the death.
Florence Dushime (17 points), Ekirapa Zachariah (14 points) and Lwabaga Ibanda (11 points) led the Canons’ scoring chart in double digits.
On the other hand, Mark Ngobi (17 points and 10 rebounds), Cerdic Alema (13 points) and Cyrus Wobusobozi (10 points) led the Crocs in double digits.
