The first preliminary round of the 2026/27 CAF Champions League successfully came to an end over the weekend, with several teams booking slots into the next round.
A total of 28 teams across the continent sailed through to the second and final qualification round which will determine which teams advance to the group stage.
On Saturday, Orlando Pirates secured a 3-1 win at home to go past La Cure Waves of Mauritania. It should be noted that the reverse fixture had ended goalless.
Egyptian traditional giants Zamelek made light work of Ports FC winning 4-0 at home to advance with an aggregate score of 6-1.
Al Hilal Omdurman won 1-0 in Kigali to complete a 3-0 aggregate victory over Burundi’s Aigle Noir. Their bitter rivals Al-Merreikh secured a 1-0 win over Power Dynamos on the road thus progressing with a 2-0 aggregate win.
Elsewhere, TP Masembe beat Medeam 3-1 to advance 4-1 on aggregate, Club Africain drew 2-2 with AC Djoliba but progressed to the next round 3-2 on aggregate while Young Africans defeated Gaborone United from Botswana 2-1 to sail through 3-2 over the two legs.
FC Nouadhibou from Mauritania ejected Ugandan Champions Vipers on away goals rule. The first leg in Kitende had ended 1-1 but the return leg finished goalless.
