Tunisia moved to the top of Group C at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a comfortable 3-1 win over Uganda at the Rabat Olympic Stadium on Tuesday night.

In rainy conditions, the Carthage Eagles outclassed the Cranes and scored via Ellyes Skhiri and Elias Achouri (two) to take first place in the standings on goal difference over Nigeria (who defeated Tanzania earlier in the evening).

Tunisia were on the front foot from the very first whistle and claimed the lead as early as the 10th minute, with Ellyes Skhiri getting on the end of Hannibal Mejbri’s corner kick and heading home via the inside of the post for 1-0.

Uganda gradually gained a foothold in the game, but the next scoring chance came from the North Africans in the 27th minute, with Mejbri striking a low drive wide of the target after a swift move down the right flank.

The rainy conditions slowed up the pitch somewhat, but Tunisia were still able to move through the gears in attack and claimed a second goal in the 40th minute, with Elias Achouri volleying home Ali Abdi’s cross from the left flank.

Two goals down at the break, Uganda made a double change at the start of the second half, introducing Denis Omedi and Travis Mutyaba, but they were unable to create any genuine attacking pressure.

In fact, Tunisia added to their advantage in the 64th minute via Achouri, who easily converted from close range after Uganda goalkeeper Salim Magoola could only parry a low shot from Abdi back into the danger zone.

Uganda kept plugging away and were rewarded with a consolation goal in injury time, as Omedi’s strike deflected into the back of the net to complete a 3-1 score line.

The teams will continue their Group C campaigns on Saturday 27 December, with Uganda facing regional rivals Tanzania in Rabat, while Tunisia will have a heavyweight showdown with Nigeria in Fez.
