The Silverbacks have officially tipped off their intense 10-day training camp ahead of the critical upcoming window of the FIBA World Cup African Qualifiers.
Head coach Mandy Juruni expressed strong satisfaction with the opening day of camp, which featured a rigorous morning gym session followed by on-court tactical basketball training.
With a prior window of competitive games against their upcoming opponents already under their belts, Juruni noted that the coaching staff has a precise blueprint for the days ahead.
“There are things that we know having played the opponents months back,” Juruni said after the opening practice. “So with that in mind, it really gives a plan on how we should prepare for these games.”
To sharpen their tactical execution, the Silverbacks have secured three crucial friendly matches this week.
The team will face Rwanda on Wednesday, take on a formidable South Sudan squad on Thursday, and wrap up their exhibition schedule with a rematch against Rwanda on Saturday.
Juruni emphasised that having three high-quality games embedded directly into their 10-day preparation window provides an invaluable testing ground for the squad.
The roster is currently operating with nine players on the floor, but reinforcements are imminent. Team captain Robinson Opong is scheduled to join the camp on Monday, with two additional international players expected to arrive later in the week to bring the squad to full strength.
