The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has appointed Mohamed Ouahbi as the new head coach of the Morocco national team.
The 49-year-old replaces Walid Regragui, who resigned after Morocco’s 1-0 extra-time loss to Senegal in the 2025 AFCON final on January 18. Regragui had pledged to step down if the team failed to win the title.
Ouahbi, fresh from guiding Morocco’s U20s to the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup triumph, now takes charge of the senior side ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, said, “This announcement is not just a change, but a strategic shift. Our goal is the continuous development of Moroccan football through a clear roadmap, aligned with an enlightened royal vision that links the national team, youth development, age-group categories, and women’s football.
“By appointing Mr. Mohamed Wahbi and attracting top-tier talent, we are strengthening our standards and raising our expectations daily, within a framework of harmony and integration.”
“Morocco 2030 represents a motivating horizon for us: our ambition is to sustainably establish ourselves among the best national teams in the world, and to achieve the expected performance starting this summer and continuing until 2030.”
For his part, Ouahbi said, “I am honored to have earned the trust of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation. We will work diligently and humbly, relying on a clear methodology and collective ambition: progressing match by match, establishing high standards in our daily work, enabling the national team to achieve a qualitative leap in upcoming competitions, and living up to the aspirations of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God grant him victory, and the expectations of the Moroccan people.”
