Following Paris-Saint Germain’s mammoth 8-2 aggregate win over Chelsea in the Round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League this week, Moroccan star Achraf Hakimi now boasts a set of special records in the popular club competition.
PSG took a 5-2 scoreline to Stamford Bridge in their second-log tie against Chelsea on Tuesday night, as Khvicha Kvaratskhekia, Bradley Barcola and Senny Mayulu got their names on the scoresheet in London.
Hakimi provided the assist for Barcola’s goal in the 14th minute and thus became the first defender in UCL history to record at least five assists in two different campaigns, while the feat occurred in consecutive seasons at that.
The 27-year-old defender also took his assist tally to 17 in the showpiece and is now the third best assist maker from Africa in Champions League as he sits behind Samuel Eto’o who has 20 assists to his name, while Mohamed Salah turned provider on 18 occasions.
As it stands, Hakimi is also the joint top assist maker in the Champions League this season, level with Bayern Munich star Micheal Olise.
Hakimi has long been deemed as one of the best right-backs in the world, given his consistent showings for PSG in Ligue 1 and the UEFA Champions League.
