Following a win against Comoros last time out, Morocco are hoping to secure back-to-back victories at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations when they face Mali in Group A at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium on Friday. Kick-off is at 10:00pm CAT.
The Atlas Lions started their AFCON bid with a 2-0 win against Comoros last Sunday, with Brahim Diaz and Ayoub El Kaabi on target at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.
While it remains early days in the showpiece, Morocco placed themselves at the top of Group A as the only team to have bagged maximum points during matchday one.
Mali will head into their second game on the back of a 1-1 stalemate with Zambia, as the Eagles conceded a 92nd minute equalizer by Patson Daka at Stade Mohammed V on Monday, 22 December.
Morocco will face Zambia in their final match of the group stage while Mali are scheduled to face Comoros in matchday three, with both games set to commence on 29 December.
Speaking after Morocco’s initial win over Comoros, coach Walid Regragui noted the importance of winning the first game of the competition.
Regragui went on to express that his side did enough to secure maximum points, particularly during the second-half.
“I believe that entering the competition is not easy; the first match in the tournament is always difficult, but we managed to secure the win.”
“In the first half, we were not good and did not create many chances, but in the second half, we played better and opportunities came, and we managed to score the leading goal.
“In the second half, we played with strength and aggression and created many chances; it was important to win in front of our fans in the first match.”
