Where did the rest go? Only six players left from Villa’s 2023/24 title squad

By the start of the 2026/27 season, three years after SC Villa historic 17th record extending league triumph, only five (5) players remain at the club.

Under Dusan Stojovanovic, Villa ended a 21-year wait for a league title having won their previous title in 2004 under Sam Timbe (RIP).

None gave them a chance at the start of the 2023/24 season with Vipers, KCCA, BUL and Kitara all ahead in terms of favourites to claim the season.

But having missed out on the title the previous campaign on final day when they fell to URA at Mutesa II stadium, Wankulukuku, they won the subsequent season playing arguably the best football.

After the season, the record winners couldn’t keep their captains Gavin Kizito and Kenneth Ssemakula among others including Umar Lutalo.

The trend continued the following season losing key players and then this transfer window.

At the moment, the only remaining players from the 2023/24 historic squad are; Arnold Odong, Patrick Jonah Kakande, David Owori, Aslam Ssemakula, Reagan Mpande and Andrew Otim.
