Mamelodi Sundowns’ Thapelo Maseko has completed a loan move to AEL Limassol in Cyprus.

The winger joined the Brazilians from SuperSport United in July 2023 but has struggled to find regular playing time, getting just over 100 minutes on the pitch for Masandawana this season.

According to iDiski Times, AEL’s rivals Aris Limassol club were interested in signing Maseko at the beginning of the season, but could not agree terms with Sundowns.

AEL Limassol announced the move on its social media platforms on Tuesday.

“Limassol Athletic Association announces the reach of an agreement with South African champions league Mamelodi Sundowns FC for the loan of footballer Thapelo Maseko, until the end of the current football season,” reads the statement released by the club.

“Thapelo Maseko is 22 years old and plays in all positions in midfield. His professional career started with the SuperSport United team with which he recorded 34 appearances. In 2023 he signed up for the champions Mamelodi Sundowns FC, recording to date 45 appearances in domestic and international events such as the African Football League & Cup and the CAF Champions League. In addition, he is international with the South African national team having so far recorded 7 appearances.”

The 22-year-old will link up with fellow South African Luther Singh at the Cypriot side, who currently sit seventh in the Cypriot First Division.
