Maroons had to grit their teeth in the 1-0 home win over visiting Kumi United during the 52nd Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 32 contest at the lake-side Maroons stadium in Luzira on Thursday, 26th February 2026.
Norman Odipio scored the all-important goal as the Prison Warders booked their berth to the round of 16 stage of the knockout competition.
Odipio struck from over 35 yards past goalkeeper Joseph Roger in the 56th minute.
Further attempts to double the scoreline through Brian Nkuubi Ssemakula and Dickson Niwamanya were fruitless after solid defending from the visitors.
Derrick Ogwang and Mustapha Oyita got close to equalizing for Kumi United, but Maroons backline was equal to the task at hand.
Meanwhile, NEC dumped out fellow topflight side UPDF with a 2-0 result at the Bombo Military Barracks stadium.
Joseph Dhata got a first half brace for Badru Kaddu Mukasa’s coached side.
NEC and Kumi United march to the round of 16, joining the likes of Vipers (holders), Express, Sports Club Villa, Kitara, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), Red Devo, Onduparaka, Happy Boys Kagaba and Iganga United.
The Uganda Cup competition has been played since 1971.
The Stanbic Uganda Cup winner earns a ticket to represent the country at the CAF Confederation Cup.
