As the month of March comes to a close, an African star has been nominated for major individual accolades following a string of impressive performances during the last couple of weeks.
As a player quietly going about his business this season, Fulham and Nigeria international Alex Iwobi was recently named among the contenders for the Player of the Month and Goal of the Month awards in the Premier League.
Alongside players such as Bruno Fernandes, James Garner, Morgan Gibbs-White, Anthony Gordon, David Raya and Danny Welbeck, Iwobi’s strong performances during March have not gone unnoticed by the Premier League.
“Often regarded as one of the more underrated players in the Premier League,” Fulham’s official website quoted the Premier League as saying of Iwobi.
“Iwobi receives recognition for the effortless ingenuity he has provided in a deeper midfield role for Fulham, who are now firmly in contention for European qualification.
“He scored a wonderfully unique goal in Fulham’s win against Spurs on the first day of March, using his in-step to provide an accurate finish across goal from outside of the box.”
Iwobi’s wonder strike against Spurs during their 2-1 victory at Craven Cottage on 1 March has also been nominated for the Goal of the Month award, while he goes up against Morgan Gibbs-White, Elliot Anderson, William Osula, Bernardo Silva, Iliman Ndiaye and John McGinn for the award.
